Shawn Eric Parsons passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends on Friday, February 12th, 2016. Shawn is survived by his parents Gerald and Carolyn Parsons, brother Richard Parsons, and his loving wife Traci Parsons of nine years. Shawn is lovingly remembered by his parents, brother, wife, sons Ryan and Daniel McKennie, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Shawn was born in Santa Monica, California on October 25, 1967 at 4:38 in the afternoon. He was baptized at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Santa Monica, California on April, 4th, 1971. He graduated from  Los Alamitos High School  in 1985. He was confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Cypress, California on December 4th, 1988. He attended some college courses. Shawn’s passion for cycling led him to being a bicycle mechanic at Los Alamitos Bike Shop in Southern California in his high school years and after. He then followed in his father’s footsteps and worked as a Tool and Cutter Grinder for McDonnell Douglas Corporation, C & C Machinist for AllForm Tool Grinding Corporation and later a Machinist at Hanebrink Bicycles in Southern California. After acquiring his Greg Lemond Tour De France carbon fiber bike frame he found his way to Bicycle Discovery where he met a mechanic who installed a headset on this frame. Shawn was pleased with his work, so later applied to work there himself as a Master Bicycle Mechanic and Manager. Shawn moved to Portland, Oregon in the mid nineties where he worked as a Production Supervisor for BMP America, Inc., Production Coordinator for Northwest Power Integration, Inc. and in 2008 opened a full retail/service bicycle shop in Wilsonville, Oregon, Bicycle Service Direct. After being diagnosed with cancer, he realized waiting until life was perfect may never come; Shawn took on his final and most important occupation as the type of pastor he was always called to be, proclaiming God's word and love to everyone he met.
Shawn was a devoted son, brother, cousin, husband, and father. He loved to laugh and enjoyed time with family and friends. He never strayed away from difficult topics of discussion. If you asked his opinion he was honest and straight forward. Shawn was a genuine person and you knew that when you met him. He didn’t care how much money you made, what your job title was or what you owned, he invested in you as a person and where you stood. He shared his faith with everyone he met and said his favorite thing to do was “Being a vessel and servant for God’s Kingdom.” His message never changed; “Repent, make yourself ready for His second coming.”
Shawn enjoyed cycling, mountain biking, playing pool, throwing darts, roller hockey, ice hockey, hiking, badminton, tennis, German beer and good food. Shawn could fix anything well.
2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:”
