Russell Allen Burr, 40, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, July 19, at his home in Big Bear Lake, California. Russell grew up in Big Bear Lake where he was born to Richard and Linda Burr on April 8, 1980, the second of three children. After graduating high school in 1998, he moved to San Luis Obispo and attended Cuesta College. He married Jenny Heman on August 19, 2005 and they relocated to Arcata, California where he lived and worked until health issues made it necessary to move back to live with his parents in Big Bear Lake five years ago.
An outdoorsman, Russell loved to hit the slopes on his snowboard, glide across a glassy lake on his waterski, bicycle on and off trail, go dirt biking and off-roading, hike the mountains and camp. He also enjoyed growing things, especially cactus and mushrooms, and was an avid gardener. His family remembers him as funny and caring with a beautiful smile, piercing blue eyes, a kind heart and the best-ever hugs. He is survived by his wife, Jenny, his two children, Sierra and Tavon; his parents Richard and Linda Burr; his two sisters Melanie and husband Jason Grote and Jessica and her husband Ben Mueller; his step-grandmother Joan Northrup; and a host of loving aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Viewing will be held at the Big Bear Mortuary, 321 West Big Bear Blvd, Big Bear City, on Friday, August 7 from 2-6 pm with Rosary at 5 pm (masks required).
Funeral Mass will be held outside on Saturday, August 8 at 10 am at St Joseph Catholic Church at 42242 North Shore Drive, Big Bear Lake (masks required). Please bring your own chairs, as well, and a small umbrella if you need shade.
Interment is immediately following the funeral Mass at Big Bear Cemetery, 370 North Maple Lane, Big Bear City. A reception will be held immediately following the interment at the home of Linda and Richard Burr.
As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Catholic Relief Services.
