Janet Rose Cook Sears of Big Bear City, California, died on Thursday, December 11, 2025. Born on December
12, 1949, in Plainview, Minnesota, she was the eldest child of Allan Andrew and Marcella (Lyons) Cook.
Janet's early years in Plainview were spent in a close-knit family that valued hard work, faith, and service.
As the firstborn, Janet grew up alongside her three younger siblings: Susan, Mary, and Paul. She took her role
as big sister seriously, offering guidance, a listening ear, and, often, a good laugh. Over the years, the Cooks
shared countless family gatherings, phone calls, and visits that kept the bond between them strong, no matter
the distance or stage of life.
Janet was known for her artistic creativity. She was talented in drawing, painting, sewing, and any other craft
she explored. Gifts from Janet always included a hand-made item created with the recipient in mind. She
created stuffed animals and made clothing for them to wear; she painted rocks with faces and angels and foot
prints: she made earrings to give to her family and friends.
Janet met the love of her life, Terry Sears, in 1987. The two were married in a private ceremony in Carmel,
California, beginning a partnership marked by deep affection, quiet humor, and steadfast support for one
another.
Janet and Terry shared a love for adventure and they traveled across the country together. She took pictures
during these trips and shared them with all. Usually, there was a story about her enthusiasm to interact with
wildlife, like brown bears, or bison, or moose; and sometimes had to be rescued when the animals became
enthusiastic about her.
Those who knew Janet will remember her for her kindness, sense of humor, patience, and strength and for the
way she made people feel seen and cared for.
Janet is survived by her husband, Terry Sears, and by her siblings Susan Olsson, Mary Bryndza, and Paul
Cook. She is also remembered with love by her close cousin, Patricia Miller and many aunts, uncles, and
cousins. Additionally, treasured memories will be held by many members of Terry's family, including Rob and
Dianna, Steve and Melanie, Sheri Hann and their extended families, as well as many nieces and nephews
(Allison, Hanna, Heidi and Hayden).
