Georgene Bonetto, longtime Big Bear valley resident, passed away Sunday,
November 8th after suffering a series of strokes. She was 73 years old.
Georgene was born in Whittier, California and was the youngest child of Gene and Georgia Oates.
She attended Whittier High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Occidental College in Los Angeles in 1964.
Georgene and her husband, Tom, moved to Big Bear in 1980. She was well known throughout the valley
as a teacher at the Bear Valley USD and as an English as a 2nd language teacher.
She was also an active member at the First Baptist Church of Big Bear Valley.
Georgene was renowned for her tremendous hospitality, her unwavering desire to help others in their educational pursuits,
and her generosity and love with her many friends.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Tom; her brother, Bill Oates and his wife Jean,
her two sons, Tom and Mike; her daughters-in-law Ivonne and Nancy,
and her 5 grandchildren, Kate, Ben, Nate, Tommy, and Madeline.
A memorial service for Georgene will be held at the First Baptist Church of Big Bear
Valley on Saturday, November 21st at 1pm. Memorial gifts in Georgene’s memory
