David Cooper Obituary

David Cooper, age 79, passed away peacefully on October 2nd, 2020, due to complications of a stroke. He was in the comfort of his home in Big Bear Lake, in the loving presence of his daughter and son-in-law. David was born in Manhattan, New York on March 17th, 1941, the 4th son of the late Irving and Kate Kupetsky. He is preceded in death by his high school sweetheart, Bonnie, who passed away in their home in Riverside, CA in 1998 and his brother, Robert, in 2020. David is survived by three brothers, Phil, Sam and Paul, his son, Marc, his daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Robert Carson, and 4 grandchildren - Danielle, Jacob, Brian & Mark, as well as cousins, nephews and nieces.

David grew up in New York, where he attended Seward Park high school. From August 8th, 1959 to February 7th, 1960 he served with the distinction of Marksman for the Army National Guard in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. In college, he majored in advertising and marketing at NYC Community College in Brooklyn and the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He married Bonnie in 1962 and in 1972 they relocated to New Jersey, to enjoy the rural life with their two children, while pursuing the independence of Amway and Melaleuca. He began his successful career in advertising with the Colonial News/Transcript in Freehold, NJ, which led to the commute to New York and his position as advertising director of the Columbia Daily Spectator, where he received national recognition for achieving the largest volume increase of ad pages in the 100 year history of the independent newspaper. He then became the general manager of advertising for the New York Torch, where he accomplished a major increase in the advertising by directing the expansion of the newspaper from free weekly to a paid twice weekly circulation in New York City. Before moving his wife and family to California in the summer of 1985, he continued to work in New York City as display advertising manager for the Chelsea Clinton News and The Westsider, serving the west side of Manhattan. His successful advertising career continued to grow and evolve in Riverside, CA, with advertising sales supervisor for the Lake Elsinore Valley Sun Tribune. After living in Riverside for two years, David and his family moved to Big Bear, CA in 1988, where he took the position of ad manager for the Grizzly newspaper and was a Rotarian. Over the coming years he returned to Riverside, CA, and continued in advertising sales as an account executive for Charter Media and from 2007 to 2012, he sold insurance as an associate for Aflac. In 2012 he moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ, until moving back to Big Bear to live with his family in 2013. He always had a love and passion for his work and took great pride in persevering and providing for his family, no matter the opportunity or obstacle, with an unstoppable and attainable focus.

He was a beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, cousin and friend. He was the type of man who always said “yes!” In his younger years he enjoyed motorcycles, gliders archery, water and snow skiing with his brothers. He would spend spare time sketching his family and the world around him. He loved cooking, reading, drawing, playing the piano, harmonica and banjo, museums, beaches, good food, and traveling and camping with his loved ones. David was beloved by everyone he met and was a dedicated Jewish man who found great joy in sharing the faith with his family. He was a wonderful role model for his children and grandchildren, and instilled in them a profoundly positive attitude and approach to life that they will carry with them always. He will be incredibly missed by his family, who have been loved and honored by such a beautiful presence.

He will be laid to rest with his soulmate at a memorial service in Riverside, CA on a future date.
